These trails provide wonderful opportunities for day trips and give access to some of the island’s most spectacular scenery. A hiking only trail is located in the northeast end of the island.


Munising Mountain Bike Park

The Gateway Loop and Munising Bay Loop are multi-use non-motorized trails and are open for use to both hikers and bikers.


The longest in the National Trails System, the North Country National Scenic Trail stretches 4,600 miles across eight states, from North Dakota to Vermont. Whether you’re looking to day-hike a few miles or plan a longer overnight backpacking trip, a multitude of diverse landscapes and hiking opportunities are waiting for you.

North Country Trail


Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore offers 100 miles of hiking trails leading to waterfalls, beaches, forest wilderness, cultural sites, and breathtaking cliff-top views of Lake Superior. Whether you have only a few minutes, hours, or days to see a portion of the lakeshore, one of these hikes may be for you.

Check at a visitor center for current trail conditions. Where allowed, pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Bicycles are prohibited on park trails.
