Munising Eateries & Adventure Tours

A food truck with rave reviews, a Michigan-based side-by-side and snowmobile rental company, and a new breakfast and lunch joint make up three businesses that recently became members of the Alger County Chamber of Commerce.

Serving American favorites like burgers, sandwiches, salads, fried wantons, curds, Hawaiian shave ice and more, Beachcomber Café – a locally-owned food truck – opened in 2021 and was located on property adjacent to Munising City Hall along Superior Street.

Beachcomber Café operated in Boarders Inn & Suites parking lot during the busy winter snowmobile season. Now, the black truck with a vibrant half sun on it can be found at 209 W. Munising Ave., Munising, next to Miners Pasties and Dairy Queen.

One Google review reads: “My girlfriend and I LOVED this place! We ate here each of the 3 days we were staying in the area. It was quick, delicious, fresh, and consistently awesome, I cannot say enough good words about the food and employees. EAT HERE. Multiple times!! You won’t be disappointed. Enjoyed the comfortable outdoor seating. Cheeseburgers and fries (gotta get the home-made ranch) were addicting.”

County Wide Adventures – which has stores in Gaylord and Harbor Springs –opened a third location three miles east of Munising in May at E9678 Prospect St., Wetmore. Offering two-hour guided side-by-side tours until October and snowmobile rentals in the winter, the company is near miles of the serene trail system in the Hiawatha National Forest.

This complimentary review was submitted on Facebook last year about its Harbor Springs location: “Best place by far for renting an ORV! We had a great experience on well-maintained machines and amazing trails. The prices are comparable/ slightly cheaper than other places with similar or less desirable machines. We will be back and can’t wait to try the sleds this winter.”

Meeting a big demand for breakfast places in the area, Earl E. Byrds - located at 202 E. Superior St., Munising - opened in December 2021. The classic American diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering plenty of omelet and skillet options, pancakes and waffles, sandwiches, salads, weekly specials and more. Their coffee comes from Gallery Coffee Company, which is roasted in Munising, with a storefront at 120 Elm Ave.

One Google review that was posted a month ago reads: “Awesome diner breakfast. The pancakes my daughter had were the best I’ve ever tasted. Portions huge, we could have shared and still had leftovers. Definitely coming back next time we’re in town.”

Earl E. Byrds is a locally owned business that’s open seven days a week. Visit their Facebook page for more info.
