Live Music, Munising’s Farmers Market, Alger County Fair, and Other Upcoming Events

The summer season is in full swing and though it seems to go by in a flash every year, there are fortunately still plenty of events to look forward to in Alger County.

PC: Munising Farmers & Artisans Market

Every Monday until Oct. 3, you can find an array of goodies at the Munising Farmers and Artisans Market, which takes place at Binsfeld Bayshore Park from 4 to 7 p.m.

There, you’ll find anything from homegrown fruits and vegetables, honey products, maple syrup, bakery items, jams and jellies, and perennials to jewelry, pottery, photography, paintings and prints, soaps and lotions, wood products and more. There’s also live music during the event and Case Country Farm of Chatham typically has fresh hot food available if you’re looking for dinner options.

Another weekly event at Binsfeld is Alger Parks and Recreation Department’s free Concert in the Park series. Every Tuesday, live music can be enjoyed along Munising Bay from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. until Aug. 30. The remaining schedule is as follows:

July 26 – Black Pearl

Aug. 2 – Jim and Ray

Aug. 9 – Sky Pilots

Aug. 16 – Angels and Outlaws

Aug. 23 – The Wayouts

Aug. 30 – Dredknot

The stage at Gallery Coffee Company is perfect for musicians and entertainers.

Many Munising businesses have live music and performers scheduled throughout the season as well, including Gallery Coffee Company, MOH’s Pub, the Barge Inn, East Channel Brewery, ByGeorge Brewery, and Falling Rock Café and Bookstore. Keep an eye on each Facebook page for updates.

Munising’s premier craft beer tasting event, Beer on the Bay, will take place on July 30 at Binsfeld, too Tickets cost $35 and are available at www.eventbrite.com. With admission to the event, you’ll get 10 four ounce pours of craft beverages from local breweries while enjoying live performances by Jim and Ray and Whiskey Ryan and Catfish Kennedy.

The Grand Island Trail Marathon, which consists of a 50K, marathon, and half marathon will also take place on July 30. The race takes runners both along the shoreline and through the heart of the forest on 13,500-acre Grand Island, which lies about half a mile off the coast of Munising and is accessible only by boat. Registration is open until July 29 or until the event hits capacity. For more information, visit www.greatlakesendurance.com/michigan-races/grand-island-trail-marathon.html

And last, but certainly not least, is the Alger County Fair, which will take place Aug. 5-7 at the Chatham Fairgrounds near the Rock River Township Fire Department building. Some of the highlights include its Run with the Cows 5K, a game tent, live music, and horse show. More information, including the fair book, can be found at www.algercountyfair.com or by visiting the event’s Facebook page.
